In the 1970s, air travel was an event. You would dress up for flight – wide legged pantsimage-6240078-10451141, high collared blouse, a full leisure suitimage-6240078-10731705 – and enjoy lobster thermidor and a stiff cocktail as you made your way across the Atlantic. No Ambien. No problem.
Four decades later, the lux flight has all but disappeared, but the definitive style of the time—the power pantsuit—, is making a sharp comeback. Retro suits emerged in poison apple red at See by Chloe, hexagonal, David Hicks-reminiscent prints at Prada, and Wilhelm Kåge-inspired motifs at Rochas for Fall 2012. Miuccia Prada sent Sgt. Pepper-styled, hippie chic suits down the runway at Miu Miu and Carol Lim and Humberto Leon presented fitted, somber blue suits with black lacquered oxford shoes at Kenzo. The seventies classic is getting an update. And in its modern form, the leisure suit is as fit for the streets as it is on board.
Beyonce and Jay-Z on a private jet, headed to Miami for dinner. The Brady Bunch as  the ultimate ‘ballers’ on a night out in Cannes or a day in the open air markets of Pune. A late morning breakfast for the crew at Yannick Noah’s restaurant in St. Barts.
Anywhere a plane- or a flight of fancy- can take you.
