If you were stranded on an island and had to choose one notable figure from the past or present to be there, who would it be and why? Right now I'd have to say Richard Branson. I’m rather amazed by his version of success. Much of the time his office is a hammock on a private tropical island. That’s awesome! I'd like to learn quite a few things from him. As Picasso says, “It takes a long time to become young.” Richard Branson seems to have this. Always enthused. A true zest for life. Success does not seem to have jaded him and I love that he keeps dreaming new dreams. He’s excellent and manifesting his ambitions. Who can choose one, though? Nelson Mandela. His strength of vision for the future of his people in spite of living in the exact opposite situation is so powerful and inspiring. To be able to hold your vision with such unbending focus. Wow. Georgia O’Keefe. Most people think of her for the desert and floral paintings, but the ones that impress me most are her cityscapes in which the city shrinks to become just an element in a natural landscape. She always saw the organic nature in everything. Eartha Kitt. ‘Cause she would be so entertaining with her singing and her incredible sass. September 2012 |
