Peggy Lipton—Jewish girl, self-described “Topanga Canyon hippie” teen, young Ford model and TV star at age 19—was the woman behind 70’s style icon Julie Barnes and the longtime wife of Quincy Jones, 70’s producer and 20th century legend. She’s also the mother of Rashida and Kidada Jones. “But my parents are hippies in the right way,” said Rashida, “They supported anything I was interested in.” The surprise was that what she came to was not far from the world of her mother at all—after Harvard, after a childhood of being the “weird one,” Jones went the way of her Mod mother. She’s also writing six (!) TV pilots featuring female protagonists for next fall. Big sister, Kidada, former Michael Jackson stylist and fiancé of Tupac Shakur - is now a designer of all things pretty and fantastic for Walt Disney Company, where she has a collection known as Kidada Couture. ~Ashley Simpson 2014 |
