A master of subversively glamorous narratives, Riccardo Tisci's Spring 2012 Couture collection for Givenchy is an inspired vision of rebellious opulence. Mannequins in a gymnasium (basketballs as props!) clad in ribbed tank tops and intricately beaded gowns. 350 hours of meticulously crafted artistry drape t-shirted torsos. The adornments are inspired by Indian women's ancient savoir-faire. A heady mix of copious chandelier earrings, incandescent crystals, swaying chains, and ornate nath rings ornament the visage. The nose is believed by Indian occultists to be the ‘seat’ of the sixth sense. The charms of this enigmatic subcontinent incorporated into Givenchy style are intoxicating.
