COLLAGE : SPIRITUAL CONNECTION by DO IT GIRL Sarah...

“I got a pretty interesting phone call while I was walking into the grocery store on a cold and blustery November night. I live on a magical little island where I take everything as a sign, that’s just the way I live, everything means something. There is no- thing that means nothing.

"I just had a tarot card reading done," said a friend, lit- up on the other end of the line.

"I don't do tarot-" I stopped her. I always feel the need to correct that, when people bring up tarot to me, assuming because of my mystical ways that I'm a tarot reader. I'm not, I read runes. Every witch has her "thing." Runes, ancient Nordic stones carved with wise symbols- are mine. I find there are tarot witches, rune witches, tealeaf readers, crystal ball seers- and then the witches who need no tools. They'll just tell you what's coming on the wind.

"I know," she said. "But why did it feel so good, so right, to have this reading done?"

This is a question I wanted to answer for her. And I have a few theories, that all come down to the same thing: We want to be reminded we're not alone. That there's a method to all this madness.
