  STAY:
You will find every manner of place to stay in Scotland, from the highest end luxury hotels to the sparest of youth hostels. The water pressure is generally less than impressive and many of the B&Bs are nauseatingly twee, but they are usually safe, clean and hospitable.

LUX:
Blairadam Bed and Breakfast
This isn’t “lux” in the way that, say, the Four Seasons is lux, but if you want to stay at a spectacular Scottish country estate Blair Adam is pretty magical. My husband is great friends with the family and grew up wandering around this house, which has been in the Adam family since the 1730’s. The walled garden is glorious, and the hosts, Keith and Elizabeth Adam, are warm and incredibly knowledgeable about the rich history of the house. It’s located about 1/2 hour from Edinburgh.

LOCAL:
Rent a Yurt
I’ve never done this because we have a place to stay but I’ve always wanted to.
