LUX:
In Bergen there were oodles of boutiques I wanted to explore. I spied Acne Studio, Aesop beauty products in shop windows and all kinds of Scandinavian interiors shops. Sadly, I walked past these on my way to the science museum VilVite with the boys.

LOCAL:
In Norway, the Salvation Army is called Fretex. Thanks to Google Maps I found a Fretex within walking distance of our hotel in Aselund. I left the boys for an hour with my husband and went thrift shopping. I bought two sets of tealight holders - a trio in brass and another trio in pottery with an earthy, dark-blue glaze. I picked up some God Jul knickknacks, a heart-shaped pot holder that has proven very useful back in Brooklyn, and two pairs of hand-knitted socks for the boys. I was so pleased with my suitably Norwegian haul and have vowed to light tealights more, especially through winter. The Norwegians showed me how to do candlelight: all the time.
