“The first villages we visited were Htee Pu and Pon in Bagan. We collect reading glasses, which are donated by the passengers, for the elderly men and women. Many women were in their 80s and had been friends for decades. It was very sweet how the women help one other prepare meals, getting around with walking sticks. One gentleman, Mr. Brown, had traveled several miles from the jungle via an ox driven cart. He was 103 years old and had beautiful skin and eyes. The village elders are revered and treated with compassion. The children have utter respect for the monk who presides over each village. Burmese people are very hospitable and full of stories. I was very moved by the kindness and warmth.”
