STYLE IRIDESCENCE IN NATURE by Anna Yanofsky
In the contemporary high fashion world shimmer is used in ever more chic ways. Pearls (both real and not) are a mainstay in the Chanel lexicon. Karl Lagerfeld sent models down the Spring 2014 runway with silver necklaces slung around their necks—two giant “pearls” meet front and center imitating the look of ubiquitous headphones. Lanvin’s collections often borrow their palette from insect wings, showing a jewel-toned rainbow of sequined evening wear for women and holographic accessories for men. Derek Lam, Calvin Klein, and Marc Jacobs all show fashions in the transformative shine of iridescence.

Style can help us connect to nature’s beauty in the lull of winter. Donning a little something shiny always manages to lift the spirits. And, when that something is as poetic as butterfly wings, the impending bloom of spring flutters in our hearts.
