STYLE : RUNWAY RUNAWAY BLUES Fall 2014 Fashion : Hydra, Greece by Mirabelle Marden
“If I'd been a boy my parents were going to name me Ocean. I still think it fits,” says Mirabelle Marden. The artist and founder of Rivington Arms is the perfect person to curate Nomad Chic’s seasonal Runway Blues style slideshow. Her forward-looking, contemplative eye reflects the spirit of the color blue.

Mirabelle grew up in New York’s West Village, with homes in Hydra, Pennsylvania, and Tivoli, on the Hudson banks. She traveled with her sister and artist parents to Thailand, Sri Lanka, India and elsewhere—experiencing far-reaching places with eccentric spirits and going on to create her own work as a photographer and curate and support that of her peers (people like Hannah Liden, Dash Snow) at Rivington Arms. Publishing work alongside Alex Bulter's poetry and editing Brice Marden's Book of Images 1970

As Mirabelle seeks out pieces of turquoise and glimpses of skies, designers showcase variations on blue- and we are inspired. Fully feathered fairytale creations, a layered cake from sister Melia’s baby shower, photographs of Eggleston (ripe peaches against a bright sky), and somber Simone songs. Scroll through a portfolio of Mirabelle’s photographs- beautiful- composed moments, precious images based in the integrity of an instant. They’re graceful, engaged snapshots in the tradition of Snapshot Poetics— “Ordinary mind includes eternal perceptions. Notice what you notice. Observe what’s vivid. Catch yourself thinking. Vividness is self-selecting. And remember the future,” said poet
Allen Ginsberg. Mirabelle gives us a photograph and text- Nomad anchors each tableau with fashion runway selections. Kindred palette and spirit in virtual collaboration. Visions of swimming in the deep blue sea of Hydra, blueberries fresh by the handful, a boy named Blue (or was it Indigo?). Paired alongside true blue garments. Tiny moments and memories that belie the depth of the way Mirabelle sees the world.
