COLLAGE : NATURAL DYE IN CONTEMPORARY ECO-LUXURY FASHION STYLE STYLE: A HISTORY OF TURKEY RED DYE by Anna Yanofsky
We’re all hungry for color at this point, and crimson aims to satisfy. There was a time in history when a shade so truly red would have drawn blood. Before there were chemical reactions in test tubes that could easily and repeatedly produce the same color dye with rapid accuracy, dyes were created through elaborate natural processes. Recipes detailing precisely measured and unexpected ingredients for highly coveted dyes were kept under heavily guarded lock and key. The right dye recipe could mean the difference between a country’s economic struggles and their dominance.
