NAME: Alexandra Thom LOCATION: On the Upper West Side of Manhattan OCCUPATION: I am the co-founder of boutique creative agency Archer& Leo and a fellow in the Exhibitions Department at the Brooklyn Museum. I also write short fiction. WHERE WILL YOU BE READING THIS SUMMER? I will do most of my reading on the subway during my commute. Otherwise, I will be reading on my terrace with a glass of rosé – my favorite way to spend an early evening. FAVORITE SPOT TO READ: This is a tough question. I rarely read in bed, but almost anywhere else is game. As a kid, I would hide out in the laundry cabinet during the day and read with a flashlight so no one would disturb me – reading has served as an escape and an adventure, rolled into one, for as long as I can remember. Ideally, I would be on a terrace in Paris overlooking the Canal St-Martin, or maybe on the sofa in my parent’s house. FAVORITE BOOKS: In no particular order: Slouching Towards Bethlehem The History of Love The Gift of the Magi Harriet the Spy The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao East of Eden American Pastoral Anything written by Michael Cunningham Anything written by Ian McEwan Short stories by Amy Hempel, ZZ Packer, J. D. Salinger, Nam Le, Flannery O’Connor, and Raymond Carver. MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE TO… Since this is a “dream” vacation, I would be reading Gabriel García Márquez ~Alexandra Thom Alexandra is the co-founder of boutique creative agency Archer&Leo and a Kress Fellow in the Exhibitions Department at the Brooklyn Museum.
