“Luxe” in this case is a misnomer because it’s the absence of frivolous frippery and snazzy photography that make these pocket-sized, accordion-fold city guides so popular. Designed to slip into a back pocket or purse, Luxe City Guides speak to worldly, time-pressed business and leisure travelers who might have the funds to stay at a fancy but stuffy 5-star hotel but would rather check into the 3-star haunt down the block with the one-of-a-kind vibe. A tightly curated hit list of the most memorable restaurants, bars, clubs, spas, sights and shops in each of its nearly 40 featured cities, Luxe guides are edited and written by city residents only, not visiting freelancers armed with the same books, newspaper clippings, and apps as the rest of us.
