WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OF TAIPEI?
Mid way through our trip we visited Wulai, a village just south of Taipei. Wulai is home to one of Taiwan’s largest indigenous tribes, the Atayal. We left very early in the morning to catch a bus and arrived at 6 30am. We took a hike over a bridge for a closer look at a temple and to catch a view of the river. We then walked through the village and hiked to a gondola that took us to the top of a waterfall.

That must have been my favorite memory. We were exhausted, but couldn’t stop climbing stairs, since every break lead to another spectacular, lush view or discovery about the native culture. The best surprise was a small pond where we rented a rowboat.

Needless to say, we were famished after a long morning. Instead of hiking down, we took a mini train back down to the village. We spent the rest of the afternoon tasting delicious Aboriginal cuisine, like moist, savory rice steamed in a bamboo shoot, fried local fish, and glazed morsels of sweet potato.

BEST SOUVENIR?
A bright blue coat woven by an Atayal weaver.
