What inspired you to go to MOROCCO? Morocco has enticed me for a long time. I was living and traveling in Southern Spain a few years ago and met some friends that told illustrious tales of frequent travels in Morocco, as Tangier is easily accessible by way of Andalusia. I was thinking of doing the very trip, but decided to travel to Granada. I distinctly remember as the train destined North started out, I looked back and silently promised the Rif Mountains over the Strait that I would see them very soon. After spending time in Andalusia, I had become enamored with the zellij and arabesque architecture that flavors much of this part of Spain. I wanted to discover the origins of it. I began to study Arabic and Moroccan textiles shortly after this trip and fell in love with all I was learning of the aesthetics and women’s weaving culture, in addition to the beauty of the language itself. I knew it was only a matter of time before I saw it all for myself. August 2013 |
