Food is key in providing nutrients to look and feel one’s best. Eating more colorful fruits and vegetables- tomatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, pomegranates, almonds, and dark chocolate- will help balance the body’s pH levels, creating brilliant, beautiful skin. Add freshly ground flax seed into the daily diet to keep a clean belly. Drink lots of water. Opt for green tea over coffee. Staying hydrated insures the body flushes toxins. Reducing stress is a major way to look -and feel- beautiful. Stress wreaks havoc on cortisol levels, linked to problem skin, including redness, inflammation, breakouts, and increased signs of aging. Meditate. Take a nap. “Skin cells turn over while you sleep, and getting rest makes a big difference,” says New York City dermatologist Amy Wechsler. Feeling rejuvenated, but naps not nipping the under-eye baggage? Try a homemade parsley brightening eye mask once a week. The herb is rich in vitamin K, a nutrient that, when applied topically, reduces blood flow to the eye area- a key factor in the formation of circles. Place one small handful of fresh parsley and 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt into a food processor, and pulse until a smooth paste forms. Generously apply the mixture below your eyes, and let sit for twenty minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water. CLICK HERE FOR NOMAD'S FAVORITE BEAUTY MASKS: ~Susan Brickell 2014 |
