ART: JAY-Z PERFORMANCE OF PICASSO BABY: BEST OF NYC ART EXHIBITIONS 2013 by ALEXANDRA THOM
"As I began to assemble a list of my favorite art exhibitions of 2013, I paused to consider the expression “to be moved” by something. I had written that a certain exhibition had moved me to tears, and I realized that the phrase referenced a form of travel within oneself- with the art serving as the catalyst and the emotional experience serving as the destination. I thought it was a particularly apt description for the kind of art that isn’t merely beautiful, but challenging and directional, whether maddeningly trendy or transcendent—art that forces us to engage, to consider and, ultimately, to travel to different states of mind and depths of understanding.  So, without further ado, I present Art: Best of 2013."
